GHANA TECH SUMMIT ANNOUNCES SPEAKERS FROM IBM, UBER, AND GOOGLE

Ghana  Tech Summit, a 12-year initiative of the Global Startup Ecosystem, recently announced its first set of the 25 speakers who will be in attendance. These speakers include execs from companies such as IBM, Uber, Google, LinkedIn, and the United Nations.  Black Enterprise  will also be joining the cohort set to take place in Accra, Ghana, West Africa,  July 18–20, 2018. This is the first time that Ghana has seen a tech summit of this magnitude.  “Entrepreneurs in emerging markets have the same capabilities as I do, but not the same direct access; as a result, assumptions are made about their ability to innovate, disrupt and inspire global markets,” said   Einstein Kofi Ntim, founder of Ghana Tech Summit. The summit is a part of an initiative to bring global leaders to  Ghana  to initiate partnerships and accelerate  Ghana  as an innovative tech hub in Africa. Before Dara Khosrowshahi became Uber's CEO last summer, he had been successfully leading over travel company Expedia for over a decade. In fact, he nearly turned down the executive role at Uber. "When I thought about Uber, and honestly at first when they called I said, 'No way, I'm doing great. While calls for users to eliminate their presence on Facebook have increased due to reports of how Cambridge Analytica allegedly used the platform, most of them haven't come from anyone walking around with a few billion dollars of Facebook's money. WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton left the company last year, and yesterday simply tweeted "It is time. #deletefacebook." It is time. #deletefacebook — Brian Acton (@brianacton) March 20, 2018 Facebook acquired WhatsApp in 2014 for about $22 billion, and now Acton's focus is on data protection and privacy, as he wrote last month after donating $50 million to launch the Signal foundation. At the time, he said: "We believe there is an opportunity to act in the public interest and make a meaningful contribution to society by building sustainable technology that respects users and does not rely on the commoditization of personal data."

Popular dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns, has died in a gruesome road accident that occurred late Thursday evening on the Sunyani-Kumasi road. According to police, the 20-year-old singer and two military officers were on board a Jeep with registration AS 497—16 from Sunyani heading towards Kumasi when it collided head-on with a VIP bus heading towards Sunyani from Kumasi. The two military occupants also died later at the Bechem Government Hospital after they were rushed there DSP John Adusei, Mankraso District Commander, confirmed.
