Remember Who We Truly Are

Image
MAY 10, 2020 Remember Who We Truly Are Let us then remember who we truly are. Let us go further up and further in to all the riches and the joy and the intimacy and the healing that God has for us! Do you remember who you are? Whose you are?  First, you are the daughter of the King. You are your Father’s delight. You are the apple of his eye and the one on whom his affections rest.  Second, you are the bride of Christ. You are engaged to the High Prince. You are the beloved of Jesus. There is a royal wedding coming, unparalleled in the history of men and angels, and all the eyes of creation will be riveted and rejoicing. Third, you are the ally-friend of Jesus, sent to this earth to bring about the invasion of his kingdom. You have a role in a mighty story filled with beauty and danger. When we believe something is true, it affects the choices we make. We believe gravity exists, so we jump up, safe in the knowledge that we will come down again. We believe the sun will rise, so...

How Majestic Is Your Name

Image
Psalm 8 For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by a stringed instrument. Psalm 8 1  O  Lord , our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!      Your glory is higher than the heavens. 2  You have taught children and infants      to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies      and all who oppose you. 3  When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—      the moon and the stars you set in place— 4  what are mere mortals that you should think about them,      human beings that you should care for them? 5  Yet you made them only a little lower than God      and crowned them with glory and honor. 6  You gave them charge of everything you made,      putting all things under their authority— 7  the flocks and the herds      and all the wild animals, ...

Why We Need a Guide

Whatever the details might be, when a man speaks of the greatest gift his father gave him—if his father gave him anything at all worth remembering—it is always the passing on of masculinity. This is essential, for life will test you. Like a ship at sea, you will be tested, and the storms will reveal the weak places in you as a man. They already have. How else do you account for the anger you feel, the fear, the vulnerability to certain temptations? You know what I speak of. And so our basic approach to life comes down to this: we stay in what we can handle, and steer clear of everything else. We engage where we feel we can or we must—as at work—and we hold back where we feel sure to fail, as in the deep waters of relating to our wife or our children, and in our spirituality. Masculine initiation is a journey, a process, a quest really, a story that unfolds over time. It can be a very beautiful and powerful event to experience a blessing or a ritual, to hear words spoken to us in a cere...

Prayer and Praise for Deliverance from Enemies

Image
A  Meditation of David, which he sang to the  Lord   concerning the words of Cush, a Benjamite. Psalm 7 I come to you for protection, O  Lord  my God.      Save me from my persecutors—rescue me! 2  If you don’t, they will maul me like a lion,      tearing me to pieces with no one to rescue me. 3  O  Lord  my God, if I have done wrong      or am guilty of injustice, 4  if I have betrayed a friend      or plundered my enemy without cause, 5  then let my enemies capture me.      Let them trample me into the ground      and drag my honor in the dust.  Interlude 6  Arise, O  Lord , in anger!      Stand up against the fury of my enemies!      Wake up, my God, and bring justice! 7  Gather the nations before you.      Rule over them from o...

A Prayer of Faith in Time of Distress

Image
Psalm 6 For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by an eight-stringed instrument. [ a ] 1  O  Lord , don’t rebuke me in your anger      or discipline me in your rage. 2  Have compassion on me,  Lord , for I am weak.      Heal me,  Lord , for my bones are in agony. 3  I am sick at heart.      How long, O  Lord , until you restore me? 4  Return, O  Lord , and rescue me.      Save me because of your unfailing love. 5  For the dead do not remember you.      Who can praise you from the grave? [ b ] 6  I am worn out from sobbing.      All night I flood my bed with weeping,      drenching it with my tears. 7  My vision is blurred by grief;      my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies. 8  Go away, all you who do evil,      for t...

Psalm 5 - Prayer for protection from the wicked.

Image
For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by the flute. 1  O  Lord , hear me as I pray;      pay attention to my groaning. 2  Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God,      for I pray to no one but you. 3  Listen to my voice in the morning,  Lord .      Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. 4  O God, you take no pleasure in wickedness;      you cannot tolerate the sins of the wicked. 5  Therefore, the proud may not stand in your presence,      for you hate all who do evil. 6  You will destroy those who tell lies.      The  Lord  detests murderers and deceivers. 7  Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house;      I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe. 8  Lead me in the right path, O  Lord ,   ...
